More about me
I'm Kevin a first-generation Trinidadian-American; I have been a deejay for 20 years now. I lived as a child in Trinidad and grew up most of my teen years in the DMV. My exposure to music began at an early age, when I was introduced to many different genres growing up in the Caribbean islands of Trinidad & Tobago. It was a great experience having the opportunity to grow-up in two amazing countries as a kid. After transitioning to life in America, my interest was piqued into the golden era of Hip-Hop during the 90's. I have learned to develop a understanding and appreciation for different genres of music given my upbringing, which is what lead me to becoming a DJ in the first place.
Aside from being a DJ, I've worked for a few corporations such as Giant Food, Inc., M&T Bank, Amerisourcebergens' Lashgroup, and Astrazeneca. In 2014, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business with a minor in Economics from University of Maryland. With over two decades of experiences in music, I have worked for many corporate companies, from deejaying at Camden Yards (in Baltimore) to Spirit of Baltimore cruises. I have played events for University of Maryland, Videologygroup, and Bank of America. Not to mention, the endless weddings and birthday parties. Needless to say, I have gained a lot of experience from various successful events.
I started pursuing my passion to become a DJ at twenty-three, as well as on and off throughout my undergraduate degree. The love and passion I have for music made the decision very easy for me. It was definitely my calling because I naturally performed well. I understood very well how to coordinate and organize precise transitions to make music sound and blend well together. Not everyone or most DJ's know how to do this well, it is a perfect science knowing when and what to play at certain times. This is the main reason you hire a DJ.
Besides that, I just love playing music for people who love it and enjoy watching people party to my music. In times of need, music can be the greatest escape. Once you are passionate about something you'll always succeed, that is, if you put in the work.
A disc jockey's job is far more than just playing good tunes together; it is about how well you prepare and coordinate your performance and that starts with knowing music overall. The more genres you know the better equipped you are for handling any situation or events. However, I am very proficient when it comes to mixing Caribbean music like Calypso, Soca, Reggae, and Chutney music. Although I am great at DJing Caribbean music, I am also good at other genres as well.
